My last post was just before Christmas and was our "card" to you all. Here we are now in another year. I feel like I have so much to write and have no idea where to begin!
Christmas Eve came and we attempted to make Santa's sugar cookies like we do every year. For some reason, the dough this year didn't turn out so we were not able to use the gingerbread man cookie cutter. We were going to make round cookies, but Briggs decided to make Santa some snake cookies! He was sure Santa would love them, and Santa's note on Christmas morning attested to it. We got him a couple of movies, and Santa brought him a race car track and a WWE wrestling ring. That's all he talked about!
Our original plan was to leave for SC on Saturday, but after we had our Christmas lunch, we decided to go ahead and hit the road. We arrived in SC around 10:30 Christmas night. It was definitely good to be at home with our family!
On December 20, my grandmother fell and broke her leg and hip. It was a touch and go situation. The docs tried surgery, had to stop, and she was in ICU for several days. I was able to see her on Saturday once we got home. The docs tried surgery again on Tuesday, the 29 (I think) and were successful. We thought every thing was going to be okay, but by the end of the week she was worse. She passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3 at the age of 74. I am thankful that just about 2 years ago my dad was able to lead her to salvation in Jesus Christ.
After her surgery was completed and we thought she would be okay, we packed up the camper and headed to James Island in Charleston for a couple of days. It was like 60 degrees one day and nice. It got cold and rainy after that. We stayed from Wednesday evening until Saturday morning when we learned that my grandmother's chances were slim. We had a good couple of days there, despite the fact.
Aaron, Briggs, and I were scheduled to drive back to the Ville on Sunday, Jan. 3 so we were uncertain about what to do. Luckily we found a friend who was heading back on Sunday so Aaron hitched a ride with him and Briggs and I stayed in SC through Wednesday to attend Granny Peace's funeral. The problem this posed was that I was terribly afraid and worried about driving 8 hours by myself with a 4 year old - having to take a detour b/c of the I-40 rock slide and stopping for gas and potty breaks. I must say that the Lord was gracious to me and that He allowed Briggs and me to make it safely back to Louisville just as the snow was beginning to get heavier. I kept asking for His confidence over my drive, and there is no doubt in my mind that He granted it to me. I can now say that I accomplished something I didn't think I could do!
Being in Easley for 2 weeks was grand - yet at the same time - made things more difficult for me! I missed Aaron so much, but really did not want to leave SC. I was wishing every day that he had been able to stay with us and that magically we could just stay there forever! There truly is NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!
The snow continued to fall on Thursday and Friday and on Saturday we took Briggs sledding. We stayed for about 3.5 hours and had a blast, despite Aaron bruising or breaking his tailbone and Briggs t-boning a kid! We went back again on Sunday after church too.
We are beginning to get back in to the swings of things this week. I'm missing SC, but glad to be back with Aaron and looking forward to another semester to start!
